Joshua Medcalf

Joshua Medcalf grew up in Tulsa, OK, and then attended Vanderbilt University on a soccer scholarship, where he graduated with a BA in communications. After graduating, he attended Duke University, where he played out his final year of athletic eligibility and worked on his Master's of Arts in Liberal Studies. While attending Duke, he studied under, and was a teaching assistant, for one of the top sport psychologists in the country. Medcalf dropped out of his Masters program at Duke University to serve in a homeless shelter and later founded Train to be CLUTCH, focusing on leadership, life skills, and mental training. In 2010 he moved to Los Angeles and started the non-profit organization Dream Sports Academy. Dream Sports Academy focuses on training talented at-risk youth in the toughest housing projects in the country. Shortly thereafter, he launched Train To Be CLUTCH, which teaches performance enhancement principles to people from all walks of life.

Medcalf currently resides in Los Angeles, CA, and serves as the President and Founder of Train to be CLUTCH. This organization emphasizes a heart-first approach to leadership, life skills, and mental training. He has authored books including "Burn Your Goals: The Counter Cultural Approach to Achieving Your Greatest Potential", "Train to be CLUTCH 101", and "An Impractical Guide to Transformational Leadership". Medcalf created the first mental training apps for basketball, soccer, and golf. He also serves as the director of mental training for UCLA women’s basketball and has worked with professional athletes and teams from the NFL, NBA, PGA, LPGA, MLS, MLB, as well as Fortune 500 companies.

His keynotes often address topics such as the future of leadership, developing mental toughness, the new psychology of success, and how to bridge generational gaps within the workforce. Medcalf promotes a culture in organizations that attracts top talent and fosters loyal customer bases, drawing comparisons to companies like Nordstrom and Apple. He emphasizes mission-driven leadership and advocates for leveraging any situation as an opportunity to develop impactful organizational and personal growth. Medcalf has shared the stage with notable figures such as Condoleezza Rice, highlighting his recognition and credibility in public speaking and leadership circles.
