Juan Salgado Biography
Juan Salgado is chancellor of City Colleges of Chicago, overseeing Chicago’s community college system that serves more than 80,000 students across seven colleges. He has focused his more than 20-year career on improving education and economic opportunities for residents in low-income communities. From 2001 to 2017, Salgado was CEO of Instituto del Progreso Latino, where he worked to empower residents of Chicago’s Southwest Side through education, citizenship, and skill-building programs that lead to sustainable employment and economic stability.
A community college graduate himself, he also has bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Salgado is a 2015 MacArthur Fellow and, among other civic commitments, a board member of the Obama Foundation.
