Julia Dhar

Julia Dhar is a Partner at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), having joined the firm in 2009. She co-founded and led BeSmart, BCG's behavioral economics and insights initiative. As a trained behavioral economist, she has effectively utilized her skills to improve product and service design and delivery across organizations in both public and private sectors. Her publication, the "Decision Maker's Playbook," was published in 2019.

Throughout her career, Dhar has spearheaded and implemented transformational strategy initiatives across a multitude of social impact and public sector organizations. Her focus areas have been diverse, ranging from economic development and planning to finance, labor, education, and social welfare. Expanding her reach into the private sector, she has advised clients in industries including airlines and travel and tourism, energy, IT, and telecommunications, integrating choice architecture and customer insights to elevate these organizations' productivity, performance, and customer experience.

Prior to her tenure at BCG, Dhar served as Private Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in New Zealand. She also led a significant study aimed at increasing private capital for public services as a member of the UK Cabinet Office's Social Investment and Finance Team. She holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Dhar is deeply involved in the firm's IP development on Impact Investing and the Future of Work and remains passionate about building organizations and societies where people can be their best selves.
