Julia Engel

Julia Engel is a fashion and lifestyle blogger based in Charleston, South Carolina. She started the fashion blog "Gal Meets Glam" in her junior year of college as a place for fun and inspiration. Engel chronicles her personal style along with beauty tips, trends, and her current favorite things.

She started Gal Meets Glam in 2011 while she was a junior in college studying business. Engel knew that she wanted to create something, but she wasn’t entirely sure what that “something” was. She signed up for Blogger and wrote her first blog post. She and her then boyfriend, Thomas Berolzheimer (now husband), would spend hours online, researching html code and watching YouTube videos on how to use DSLR cameras.

After graduating college, Julia got a job in San Francisco, but continued to keep up Gal Meets Glam. Soon, every hour that wasn’t spent at her job, was spent working on the blog - answering emails, running social media, working with brands, styling looks, shooting content, writing copy, and finding inspiration.

After several months of debating whether or not to take the leap to full-time blogger, Julia decided it was time in late 2013. Engel choosing to go full time was a major turning point for Gal Meets Glam.

Since then, the company has added employees, moved to Charleston, and launched products. One of which is a line of modern feminine dresses sold at their site and at Nordstrom. The line was released in 2018.

Engel has more than a million followers on Instagram alone, has been named one of Forbes' Top Influencers in 2017 and has worked on campaigns with brands including Tory Burch, Tiffany & Co. and Nordstrom.
