Julie Sullivan Biography
Julie Sullivan-Loss is Co-Founder of Ground Up PDX, a "not-just-for-profit" nut butter business that provides job training to womxn overcoming adversity, including substance abuse, sex work or homelessness, in the Portland, Oregon area. Through its employment training program, the company provides job skills and individualized training to meet womxn where they are at, regardless of their background and previous job history, empowering them with the confidence and skills they need to get back on their feet.
Ground Up began in 2016 when Sullivan returned from Uganda, where she had been overseeing an employment training program for 31 Bits Designs International, which taught women to make beaded jewelry. Many of the women used it as a stepping stone to launch their own small businesses. Back in her hometown of Portland, she soon recognized the need for a similar social impact program at home. While working at at Sseko Designs, a socially conscious clothing and leather goods company, she met her co-founder Carolyn Cesario and Cesario's nut butters.
Sullivan-Loos earned her bachelor's degree in sociology and business from Whitworth University.
