Juwan Howard

Juwan Howard is a former NBA player and former head coach of the University of Michigan's men's basketball team. Over the course of his five year tenure with the Wolverines, he was named the Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year, Sporting News Coach of the Year, and Associated Press College Basketball Coach of the Year, and was recognized as the best college basketball coach of the year when he was bestowed the Henry Iba Award by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

Howard had a standout collegiate career at the University of Michigan, where he was part of the iconic "Fab Five" alongside Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson. The Wolverines reached two consecutive NCAA Championship games in 1992 and 1993. Howard played a crucial role in helping Michigan secure the NCAA title in 1993, earning NCAA All-Tournament Team honors that year.

After declaring for the NBA draft, Howard was selected as the fifth overall pick by the Washington Bullets (now Washington Wizards) in 1994. Known for his versatility and basketball IQ, Howard was respected as a reliable power forward and center during his playing days. Over his 19-season professional career, he played for various teams, including the Bullets/Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, Charlotte Bobcats, Portland Trail Blazers, and Miami Heat. During his time with the Heat, Howard captured back-to-back NBA titles in 2012 and 2013.

After retiring from playing, Howard took on the role of an assistant coach with the Miami Heat in 2013. In 2019, he returned to his alma mater as head coach, bringing a renewed sense of energy and passion to the men's basketball program.
