Kaiser Kuo

Kaiser Kuo is a marketing and communications expert who co-founded the Sinica Podcast, the most popular English-language podcast on current affairs in China, which he hosts with Jeremy Goldkorn. The show has been running since April 2010 and has published nearly 400 episodes. Kuo served as director of international communications for Baidu, China’s largest search engine, until April 2016.

After a 20-year stint in Beijing, Kuo returned to the U.S. in 2016. His career in Beijing encompassed diverse roles from music to journalism to technology. He was a founding member and lead guitarist of Tang Dynasty, China's first successful heavy metal band, and continues to perform with his current band, Chunqiu, which played at Wacken Open Air in 2013. Kuo also held the position of editor-in-chief at ChinaNow.com, one of China’s first bilingual online magazines, and was China bureau chief for technology and business magazine Red Herring before working as Director of Digital Strategy for Ogilvy & Mather in Beijing.

Kuo has been recognized for his contributions to communications and media, having been named to the Influence 100 list by the Holmes Group in 2012 and 2013. He also presented a TedxTalk, further highlighting his expertise in the fields of technology and media. In May 2016, the Asia Society honored him with a leadership award for “revolutionizing the way people live, consume, socially interact, and civically engage.” He frequently speaks on topics related to politics, international relations, and technology in China. Kuo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MA in East Asian Studies from the University of Arizona. He currently resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with his family and their Goldendoodle, "Potsticker."
