Karen Miga Biography
Karen Miga is a genomics expert who leads the Telomere-to-Telomore (T2T) consortium that seeks to fully complete the assembly of the human genome. She was named as "One to Watch" in the 2020 Nature's 10 as well as TIME's 100 Most Influential people of 2022 alongside fellow genomics researchers Evan Eichler and Adam Phillippy.
She is an Assistant Professor in the Biomolecular Engineering Department at UCSC and Associate Director at the UCSC Genomics Institute. Her namesake, Miga lab aims to uncover a new source of genetic and epigenetic variation in the human population, which is useful to investigate novel associations between genotype and phenotype of inherited traits and disease.
