Katherine Eban

Katherine Eban is an award-winning investigative journalist, a special correspondent for Vanity Fair, and an Andrew Carnegie fellow. Her reporting has delved into critical issues such as pharmaceutical counterfeiting, gun trafficking, and the origins of COVID-19, earning her a reputation for rigorous investigation. Eban's compelling narratives have been featured in national news programs like 60 Minutes, Nightline, and NPR, and she is a frequent lecturer on pharmaceutical integrity and global health safety.

Her book, "Bottle of Lies: The Inside Story of the Generic Drug Boom," published in May 2019 by Ecco/HarperCollins, became a New York Times bestseller. It exposes widespread fraud and unsafe practices in overseas manufacturing plants that produce generic medicines, highlighting the dire conditions in an industry compromised by the pursuit of profit. The book received accolades including the National Association of Science Writers science in society book award and the Overseas Press Club of America’s Cornelius Ryan award for best non-fiction book on international affairs. It was also listed as one of the New York Times' "100 Notable Books."

Eban's first book, "Dangerous Doses: a True Story of Cops, Counterfeiters and the Contamination of America’s Drug Supply," continues to receive recognition for its impact and was named one of the Best Books of 2005 by Kirkus Reviews. Furthermore, her Vanity Fair article "Rorschach and Awe" inspired the 2019 film "The Report," highlighting her influence in both journalism and film. Educated at Brown University and Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar, she resides in Brooklyn with her family.
