Keith Smith

Keith Smith is a survivor of a childhood stranger abduction rape. He’s the author of the novel Men in My Town, the true story of his abduction, beating, and rape when he was a 14 year old boy and the unsolved homicide of the guy who attacked him.

He’s a background source for journalists, academics, and government officials and speaks publicly on the topic of sexual assault, trauma, disclosure, and recovery.

Smith’s testimony before the New Jersey State Senate Judiciary Committee and the Rhode Island House Judiciary Committee contributed significantly to Statute of Limitation reform legislation being passed in both states, protecting the rights of child victims and holding accountable the criminals who commit sex crimes and the institutions complicit in their cover-up.

In the past 15-years, he’s had discussions with over 100 men and women, all victims of sexual abuse, assault, or rape by parents, step-parents, foster parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, friends-of-friends, dates, partners, clients, co-workers, bosses, neighbors, clergy, doctors, teachers, cops, soldiers, coaches, strangers, and men willing to pay traffickers.

Smith now uses his own personal experience and what he’s learned from those conversations to help adults keep kids safe from sexual assault and help victims of sex crimes make the transition from victim to survivor.
