Kelly Alexander

Kelly Alexander is a food writer and author. She has also taught food and American culture at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and food writing at Duke University.

Alexander was a senior editor at Saveur magazine for many years, writing numerous feature and cover stories. She won a James Beard Journalism Award for her article “Hometown Appetites,” an in-depth homage to Clementine Paddleford. She was nominated for the Bert Greene Distinguished Writing Award from the International Association of Culinary Professionals for her piece "Multicultural Meat" about the cross-cultural significance of brisket. Before joining Saveur, Alexander worked as an editor at Food & Wine magazine. Her work on food has appeared in The New York Times, Gourmet, Newsweek, O: The Oprah Magazine, and many other publications.

Alexander is the author of several books, including "Myron Mixon's BBQ Rules," "Everyday Barbeque with Myron Mixon," and "Smokin' with Myron Mixon," the best-selling cookbook from "the winningest man in barbecue" that cracked Amazon's top ten rankings. Alexander is also the author of the critically acclaimed book "Hometown Appetites: The Story of Clementine Paddleford, the Forgotten Food Writer Who Chronicled How America Ate," "The Great American Cookbook," "No Taste Like Home," "Try This at Home" by Richard Blais, "Mr. and Mrs. Sunday’s Suppers" by Lorraine Wallace, among others.
