Ken Armstrong
Ken Armstrong Biography
Ken Armstrong is an investigative reporter and narrative writer whose work has appeared in such places as The New Yorker, The Washington Post, The Paris Review and This American Life. He currently works for ProPublica as a senior reporter.
Armstrong, along with T. Christian Miller, helped expose the story of a young woman coerced by police into confessing that she lied about her rape (which did, in fact, happen). Netflix turned that story into a docuseries called "Unbelievable," which was released in 2019 and featured Kaitlyn Dever, Toni Collette and Merritt Wever.
Armstrong has won or shared in four Pulitzer Prizes for stories on a rape investigation, painkillers, a landslide and the shooting deaths of four police officers. His first book, written with Nick Perry, won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for non-fiction. Armstrong won a Peabody Award for radio and the John Chancellor Award from Columbia University for lifetime achievement.
At the Chicago Tribune, his investigations into hundreds of capital cases helped prompt the governor of Illinois to halt executions. In Seattle, his investigative reporting revealed hundreds of illegally sealed court files.
Armstrong served as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard and the McGraw Professor of Writing at Princeton.
