Ketakandriana Rafitoson Biography
Ketakandriana Rafitoson is a prominent Madagascan human rights defender, political scientist, and independent researcher who serves as Vice Chair of the global anti-corruption organization Transparency International (TI). She is also executive director of TI Madagascar, author of a guidebook on nonviolent civil resistance in the Malagasy language, and has worked extensively promoting citizen assemblies in support of democracy. She works with several international groups on environmental, human rights and political issues and has aided in the launch of safe houses for whistleblowers in Madagascar. She has endured threats and judicial and online harassment for speaking out against the scourge of corruption on the island, including the opaque financing of 2018 presidential candidates, and for calling for transparency in the lucrative Malagasy lychee trade.
Rafitoson holds a PhD in political science from IEP Madagascar and a second PhD in Social Sciences Applied to Development from the Catholic University of Madagascar, where she also lectures. She is a member of the International Board of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative, and of the African Women Against Corruption Network’s Advisory Board. She also serves as the volunteer National Coordinator of the Publish What You Pay Coalition in Madagascar.
