Kim Ellis Hayes

Kim Ellis Hayes is an Australian lawyer, scientist, and STEM professional who transitioned from a career in mining research to the field of space exploration and education. In addition to her initial work in Australia, Hayes has gone on to make significant contributions as an award-winning scientist and Supreme Court Admitted lawyer, specializing in global public policy strategy management for satellites and space activities. A professional setback during the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 spurred Hayes to reinvent her career, leading her to train for research onboard Suborbital Spacecraft in the United States and develop strategic space industry workforce training and education.

Furthermore, Hayes now holds important roles in several institutions globally. She serves as the Space Technology Discipline & Aerospace Legal Lead for Swinburne University of Technology, Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing. Additionally, she is an Adjunct Faculty member at the International Space University, where she leads curriculum development for space operations education. Her expertise extends to Suborbital Crew Space Transportation Services for NASA's Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate. A testament to her growing influence in the field, Hayes was selected to work on space debris mitigation models by notable organizations such as the World Economic Forum, the European Space Agency, and MIT.

As a speaker with a focus on science, technology, innovation, and STEM topics, Hayes speaks around the world, promoting and supporting diversity in STEM, innovative ways to build the future space workforce, and women's leadership in establishing unique careers. Hayes is continuously reaching for the stars as she strives to become the first Australian woman to conduct research on a commercial suborbital spaceflight.
