Kimberly McGlonn Biography
Dr. Kimberly McGlonn is an advocate for justice & environmentalism, which informs her approach to leadership in the fashion industry. As Founder & CEO of Grant Blvd, she oversees the creative direction and growth strategy of the Philadelphia-based start-up, which is committed to creating fair wage employment opportunities in sustainable fashion for marginalized folks, particularly those who have an experience with incarceration. Ultimately, her goal is to inspire others to see the power of fashion as, and for, activism.
Dr. McGlonn is also the CEO and Founder of the thrift/vintage concept Blk Ivy, which tells the story of fashion as activism through a curation of garments which amplify the style of 1954-1972; hosts a podcast, “The School for Disrupters”; and is a faculty member of Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.
Her work has been featured by Fast Company, Inc., WWD, and has been funded by Beyonce’s BeyGood Foundation. In 2022, she was a recipient of Visa’s “She’s Next in Fashion Award” and was also honored with the Black Enterprise “Business Disruptor of the Year” award.
A former Councilwoman in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Dr. McGlonn grew up in Milwaukee, the daughter of justice activists. Her 19 years of classroom teaching about marginalization in the American story & European colonialism have shaped her insights into the intersections of environmental and social justice.
