Lalah Hathaway

Lalah Hathaway, an American singer, first introduced her voice to the world with the release of her self-titled album "Lalah Hathaway" in 1990. Over the years, she has consistently topped charts; her album "A Moment" debuted at number 34 on the Top R&B albums, while her fifth album "Self Portrait" reached the top 10 on the same chart. Hathaway's artistry extends beyond her solo work, as seen in her 1999 collaboration with Joe Sample on the album "The Song Lives On."

Hathaway's talent and dedication to her craft were rewarded in 2013 when she earned her first Grammy for Best R&B Performance for "Something" with Snarky Puppy. Notably, she has mastered a rare type of multiphonic ("overtone") singing, enabling her to "split" her voice and sing multiple notes simultaneously. This unique skill and her collaborations with esteemed artists such as Marcus Miller, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Mary J. Blige demonstrate the breadth and depth of Hathaway's musicality.

As an alumna of Berklee College of Music, she was honored with an honorary doctorate from the institution in 2022. Beyond her studio albums and live performances, Hathaway continues to contribute to the music scene through her participation in the Daughters of Soul Tour.
