Her eponymous debut album, released in 1997, showcased her neo traditionalist country style, drawing comparisons to icons like Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. The album produced hits such as "The Fool" and "You've Got to Talk to Me," setting the stage for her rise in the country music scene.

Womack's breakthrough came with her third studio album, "I Hope You Dance," released in 2000. The title track, a poignant ballad co-written by Mark D. Sanders and Tia Sillers, became a crossover hit, topping the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and reaching No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song garnered numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Country Song and the Country Music Association's Single of the Year.

Following her initial success, Womack continued to evolve artistically. Albums like "There's More Where That Came From" (2005) and "Call Me Crazy" (2008) delved deeper into traditional country roots, earning critical acclaim and solidifying her status as a leading voice in the genre. In 2017, Womack released "The Lonely, the Lonesome & the Gone," an album that blended country, blues, and soul influences, reflecting her East Texas upbringing.
