Feinstein was National Security Director of Hillary Clinton's campaign for President from 2007-2008. He was a former senior aide to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, travelling with her to Beijing, Brussels, Cairo, Delhi, Israel, Jakarta, Moscow, Rome, Tokyo, the Vatican, Warsaw, the West Bank, and on many other missions. He has represented the United States in negotiations with the European Union, Latin America, and the United Nations. He was also a senior advisor for in the office of the Secretary of Defense, where he helped to set out the factors for U.S. support for and involvement in international peacekeeping efforts around the world.
He is the author of Darfur and Beyond: What Is Needed to Prevent Mass Atrocities (Council on Foreign Relations, 2007). A lifelong and passionate Democrat, he has built a career working with political leaders and thinkers across ideological, party, and religious lines in support of American interests and values. He served in the position of staff director of the congressionally mandated report on American Interests and the United Nations (2005), co-chaired by former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Former Senate Majority Leader, George Mitchell. He was staff director of Enhancing American Interests at the United Nations, co-chaired by the former vice-chair of the 9/11 Commission, Rep. Lee Hamilton. Feinstein is now working a fellow at the Brookings Institution, America's leading policy and research institution, and is writing a book on U.S. efforts to bring perpetrators of war crimes to justice.
