Lee Isaac Chung

Lee Isaac Chung is an American filmmaker who emerged on the international stage with his debut feature film, "Munyurangabo," which was an official selection at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. His career journey diverted from an initial path in biology at Yale University, changing lanes to graduate studies in film-making at the University of Utah. This decision led to a diverse portfolio of films, including "Lucky Life" and "Abigail Harm." Chung's dedication to film extends beyond his own projects, as he mentors young Rwandan filmmakers through Almond Tree Rwanda, his U.S.-based production company's Rwandan outpost.

Chung gained widespread recognition for his semi-autobiographical film "Minari," which won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film and received nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at the 93rd Academy Awards. In 2023, Chung expanded his repertoire into the world of popular television series, directing an episode in the third season of the Star Wars series "The Mandalorian."

In 2024, Chung brought his directorial skills to the sequel of Jan de Bont's "Twister," titled "Twisters." Chung's career has been marked by multiple nominations and wins across various film festivals and award platforms, from the Mexico City International Contemporary Film Festival in 2008 to the Deauville Film Festival in 2020. His work on "Minari" has been particularly celebrated, bringing him awards for Best Original Screenplay from prestigious bodies such as the National Board of Review, the Florida Film Critics Circle, and the San Diego Film Critics Society, among others.
