Leif Enger is the author of the best-selling, critically acclaimed novel Peace Like a River, the heroic story of small-town Minnesota that perfectly captures the poetic, verbal stoicism of the northern Great Plains. His latest is So Brave, Young, and Handsome, which examines one ordinary man's determination as he risks everything in order to understand what it's all worth in 1915 Minnesota.
A Minnesota native, Enger worked as a reporter and producer for the Minnesota Public Radio program "Mainstreet Radio" for 16 years before the success of Peace Like a River. He previously co-wrote five mystery novels about a retired baseball player named "Gun Pedersen" with his brother Lin under the pen name "L.L. Enger."
