Lynda Chin

Lynda Chin, MD is a leader in genomic medicine and currently serves as the chair of the Department of Genomic Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, a position she has held since September 2011. She is also the Scientific Director of MD Anderson’s Institute for Applied Cancer Science. With extensive experience spanning over a decade at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, she has held several key roles, including professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School, member of the Department of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Senior Associate Member at the Broad Institute. Dr. Chin also co-led the Dana-Farber / Harvard Cancer Center’s Melanoma Program and the Harvard Skin SPORE.

Dr. Chin's pioneering work spans several critical areas of oncology and genomics. She co-led the development of the Firehose pipeline at the Broad Institute, enhancing the capabilities for genomic data analysis. Her scientific endeavors include the discovery of the Sin3 co-repressor complex, which links sequence-specific transcription factors with chromatin architecture modulators. She has also been instrumental in comparative oncogenomics, integrating this with functional genomics to identify new cancer genes. As the founding chair at MD Anderson, she has leveraged these discoveries in productive drug discovery efforts and the development of function-based prognosis determinants for melanoma and prostate cancer. Dr. Chin co-founded AVEO Pharmaceuticals, focusing on cancer biology and genetics to identify novel cancer targets, and Metamark Genetic, which develops prognostic determinants for early-staged cancer management.

In addition to her academic and scientific roles, Dr. Chin has led significant initiatives as the Chief Innovation Officer for the University of Texas System, fostering the integration of technologies, analytics, and data in medicine. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, reflecting her contributions to the medical field. Dr. Chin has also founded Apricity Health, a precision medicine company aimed at enhancing cancer care. Her work continues to impact the fields of digital and precision medicine, particularly in the integration of big data and AI in healthcare. Dr. Chin and her husband are parents to three children.
