Maralee McLean

Maralee McLean is a child advocate, protective mother, domestic violence prevention activist, and author of "Prosecuted But Not Silenced: Courtroom Reform for Sexually Abused Children." McLean has authored several articles for the ABA Child Law Journal, Women’s E-New, and other publications addressing the challenges family courts face in protecting abused children. She is a consultant with the Women’s Media Center, a member of the SheSourceExpert, and the National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence (NPEIV). McLean frequently presents at conferences, law schools, and is recognized for her advocacy for protective mothers.

McLean's commitment to advocacy was deeply influenced by her personal experiences, which propelled her to become a vocal and effective campaigner for children’s rights. She organized a National Rally of Mothers at the Colorado State Capitol and has actively participated in legislative efforts aimed at reforming the Colorado Children’s Code for over two decades. A notable highlight of her advocacy was her testimony before Congress, emphasizing the need for judicial accountability to safeguard the rights of sexually abused children. Additionally, McLean has been acknowledged for her contributions to literature and advocacy, being named a Finalist for the Best Literary Book of Colorado in 2019.

Currently, McLean is working on a documentary focused on courtroom reform for sexually-abused and abused children. She also serves as an expert witness in courts on the impacts of “PAS” (Parental Alienation Syndrome) and domestic violence. Her extensive work and personal story have garnered coverage by various local media outlets and international platforms, including CNN. McLean continues to extend her influence by speaking to law students and professionals at various conferences across several states, furthering her mission to effect change in the judicial treatment of abused children.
