Marc Woods

Marc Woods had his left leg amputated because of cancer when he was seventeen. The day after he had his stitches out he went swimming and within a year he was swimming quicker with one leg then he did when he had two. His dream was to simply be the best that he could be and just 18 months after he finished his chemotherapy he was selected to represent Great Britain.

He subsequently competed at European & World Championships and Paralympic Games. In his 17 years of competition, he won a staggering 12 Paralympic medals from 5 games, 4 of those medals being gold. He also won a further 21 medals from European and World Championships. He is a member of the team that held the World Record for the 4 x 100m Freestyle and has also held world records for 200m, 400m and 1500m Freestyle.

Now retired from international swimming, Woods has embarked on a series of new challenges. Having already trekked in Nepal, Ecuador and Peru, he has begun to develop his mountaineering skills. To date he has climbed the world’s highest volcano, Cotopaxi in Ecuador; Mont Pelvoux part of the Massif des Ecrins in France and 22,200ft Mera Peak in Nepal.

Woods has presented his speech - Path To Gold - to companies all over the world. He works closely with his clients to assure the emphasis of his speech compliments the issues currently being faced in the work place. Drawing from the themes of his personal experience and from his book, "Personal Best", he inspires audiences to constantly set goals, deal with setbacks, routinely reassess goals, what it means to work as a team and what success looks like.
