A lifelong dancer and musician, Mark Ballas has captivated over 20 million viewers on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" for 18 seasons, from 2007 to 2022. He not only has been a two-time champion (Season 6 with Kristi Yamaguchi and Season 8 with Shawn Johnson), but also won the 31st season with social media personality and dancer Charli D'Amelio. He created a media frenzy when he took performance newcomer Bristol Palin all the way to the finals in Season 11 and partnered with her again in Season 15.
His masterful choreography earned Ballas a 2011 Primetime Emmy nomination, and his creative pieces during Season 12 led him and his partner, Disney star Chelsea Kane, to the finals, finishing in third place. Again in season 13, he and his partner, Welsh singing sensation Katherine Jenkins, made it to the finals, finishing in second place. In March 2011, Ballas's debut solo album, "HurtLoveBox," was released by Hit Play Records - Sony Red. His first single from the album, "Hotwire," amassed over 100 million views and appeared on feature reels in more than 100,000 retail and business locations worldwide. Ballas was named the Clear Channel "Artist to Watch" in July 2011.
On the acting front, Ballas played the lead role of Tony in the musical "Copacabana" and was the lead dancer in the UK national tour of the Spanish musical "Maria de Buenos Aires." He was also the understudy for the role of Ritchie Valens in the UK national tour of "Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story." Ballas was the final actor to portray the role of ‘Frankie Valli’ in the Broadway cast of "Jersey Boys" before it closed in 2017. He also portrayed ‘Charlie Price’ in the musical "Kinky Boots" on Broadway and played the role of ‘Teen Angel’ in the 2018 Toronto revival of "Grease."
When not performing, Ballas is committed to speaking to children about acceptance. He and his family were deeply affected by the suicide of his uncle, David, leading Ballas and his mother, Shirley, to form The Ballas Foundation in 2010, which is dedicated to eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness and suicide by raising funds, awareness, and volunteerism in support of suicide awareness.
Currently, Ballas is part of the indie music duo Alexander Jean alongside his wife, BC Jean. The duo has had success with their debut single, "Roses and Violets," and was nominated as Elvis Duran's Artist of the Month in November 2018. Born in Houston, TX, to award-winning Latin American ballroom dancers Corky and Shirley Ballas, Ballas moved at a young age to his mother’s hometown, Liverpool, England, where he attended the Italia Conti Performing Arts Academy. After graduating with a degree and honors, Ballas married his long-time love and music partner, BC Jean, in November 2016. They enjoy their downtime traveling, attending music festivals, appreciating animals, and indulging in their passion for fashion and music creation. When not on tour or traveling, the couple resides in Los Angeles, CA.
