Mark Bertolini

Mark T. Bertolini is recognized for his influential role in the healthcare industry, particularly during his tenure as the former Chairman and CEO of Aetna Inc. Bertolini assumed the role of CEO on November 29, 2010, and took on the responsibilities of Chairman on April 8, 2011. He served in these capacities until November 29, 2018, when he transitioned to a Director role at CVS Health Corporation following its acquisition of Aetna, a deal valued at $69 billion. Under his leadership, Aetna evolved from a traditional health insurance company to one focused on consumer-oriented, integrated health care, promoting holistic care within local communities.

Before his influential work at Aetna, Bertolini held key executive positions at Cigna, NYLCare Health Plans, and SelectCare, Inc., where he was President and Chief Executive Officer. His extensive experience in the health sector is complemented by his current roles as a director for several organizations, including Verizon Communications Inc., which provides communications and technology solutions, and Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, which offers insurance and investment products. He also contributes to Thrive Global, an organization offering sustainable, science-based solutions to enhance well-being and performance, and the FIDELCO Guide Dog Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to training and placing German Shepherd guide dogs with individuals who have visual disabilities.

In addition to his executive and directorship roles, Bertolini is also an author.
