Mark Richt currently serves as a studio analyst for the ACC Network. Before his role with ACC Network/ESPN, he was the head football coach at the University of Miami and the University of Georgia.
Born in Omaha, Neb., and raised in Boca Raton, Fla., Richt returned to his alma mater after a 15-year tenure at the University of Georgia. He achieved a 145-51 overall record and an 85-40 record in Southeastern Conference play. Under his guidance, Georgia secured two SEC championships, six SEC East titles, and participated in nine bowl games, finishing seven seasons in the Associated Press Top-10 rankings.
Before his prominent stint at Georgia, Richt spent 11 seasons at Florida State, the latter seven as the offensive coordinator. The Seminoles, during his tenure, consistently ranked in the nation’s top five for scoring offense, top twelve for total offense, and top twelve for passing offense. FSU clinched two national championships (1993, 1999) and contended for another in 2000.
Richt began his coaching career at Florida State, initially as a graduate assistant from 1985-86, followed by roles as a volunteer assistant and later as the quarterbacks coach. He briefly served as the offensive coordinator at East Carolina in 1989 before returning to FSU.
He successfully coached two quarterbacks, Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke, who both won the Heisman Trophy. Richt was also instrumental in FSU's national championships in 1993 and 1999.
As a player, Richt was a quarterback for the University of Miami under legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger, primarily serving as backup to Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly.
Beyond his coaching accolades, Richt has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts. In 2016, he was named the first-ever honorary head coach of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his commitment to community service. Additionally, in 2013, he received the Stallings Award for his humanitarian contributions.
On July 1, 2021, Richt publicly announced his diagnosis with Parkinson's disease.
Richt is married to Katharyn Francis of Tallahassee. They have four children—Jonathan, David, Zach, and Anya—and two granddaughters, Jadyn and Zoe.
