Martin Ihrig

Martin Ihrig is a Practice Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. He also holds appointments as Adjunct Associate Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Visiting Professor at Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland. Dr. Ihrig is Co-founder and President of I-Space Institute, LLC, a research and consulting venture that focuses on the strategic management of knowledge. He received his Master of Business Studies (First Class Honors) from University College Dublin and his Doctorate in Business Administration (Summa Cum Laude) from Technische Universität Berlin. Dr. Ihrig consults on the strategic and entrepreneurial management of knowledge (SEM-K) and directs the SEM-K research initiative at Wharton's Snider Entrepreneurial Research Center. In developing strategy tools for corporate and public sector decision makers, he has worked with organizations such as BAE Systems (USA), The Boeing Company (USA), and Vale (Brazil). His research projects have been funded by the Economic & Social Research Council (UK), the ATLAS Collaboration at CERN (Switzerland), Tekes (Finland), and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (USA). His academic research focuses on studying entrepreneurial innovation strategies with the help of agent-based simulations. He is also investigating the evolution and mapping of knowledge in the multibillion dollar ATLAS experiment at CERN. At Penn GSE, Dr. Ihrig explores entrepreneurship in education and strategic knowledge development through work-based learning.
