Martin Sensmeier Biography
Martin Sensmeier is an Alaska Native actor of Tlingit, Koyukon-Athabascan descent and is affiliated with the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes. He is one of the stars of the 2016 remake The Magnificent Seven and was recently cast in the action thriller Takeover alongside Quavo and Billy Zane and The Thigns THey Carried alongside Bill Skarsgård. He also had a recurring role as Wanahton in the HBO television series "Westworld" in 2018 and has played various physical therapist roles in the TV series "Yellowstone" and a Comanche warrior named Sam in the prequel "1883."
Sensmeier began his professional career as a welder before working on an oil rig for Doyon Drilling. He eventually quit to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles. He was cast in a leading role in the movie The Magnificent Seven alongside big names such as Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D'Onofrio. Additional credits of his include "La Brea," "Rutherford Falls," Frybread Face and Me, The Last Manhunt, among others.
Sensmeier is a member of the Native Wellness Institute, a youth advocacy group, and has a strong connection to his Indigenous heritage. He has worked with Indigenous Lactation Consultant Kim Salas to learn about breastfeeding for his son and promote Native breastfeeding awareness.
