Matthias Kroener

Matthias Kroener is recognized within the global financial services community for his expertise in planning, building, and operating disruptive and customer-centric banking business models. As a tech enthusiast, he has co-founded two digital banks, serving as both entrepreneur and CEO.

Until March 31, 2019, Matthias Kroener was CEO and co-founder of Fidor Group, a Munich-headquartered digital and mobile bank and financial services technology provider. Under his leadership, Fidor expanded globally, with offices in Dubai, Munich, New York, and Singapore, operating in both BtoC and BtoB markets. Fidor has received numerous awards for its innovation, including Best Banking Innovation in San Francisco in 2013, the Celent Model Bank of the Year award in 2015 and 2019, and the WEF’s Award for young companies in 2015. Prior to Fidor, he co-created and served as CEO of Europe’s first digital bank and online broker, DAB bank, which successfully went public in 1999 with a valuation of €1.5 billion.

As a thought leader, Matthias Kroener is known as an inspirational keynote speaker and has delivered keynotes on various topics at prestigious events, including TEDxBerlin. His presentations often discuss the impact of technological advancements like artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation on banking, and the necessity for incumbent banks to adapt to stay relevant in the face of fintech innovation.
