Melanie Choukas-Bradley is a certified nature and forest therapy guide who teaches, lectures, and leads forest bathing walks for Nature Forward, the United States Botanic Garden, Smithsonian Associates, the Rock Creek Conservancy, the Nature Conservancy, Politics & Prose, Casey Trees, the Aspen Institute, the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and many other organizations in Washington, D.C., and throughout the country. She has traveled to Japan to study the health-enhancing practice of shinrin-yoku.
Choukas-Bradley is an award-winning author of eight natural history books, including “City of Trees,” which has been in continuous print for over 40 years and has long been considered the definitive guide to the trees of the nation's capital, and “Resilience - Connecting with Nature in a Time of Crisis and Finding Solace at Theodore Roosevelt Island.” Her latest book, “Wild Walking—A Guide to Forest Bathing Through the Seasons,” was published in 2024.
Choukas-Bradley and her walks have been featured on National Public Radio and in National Parks magazine. In 2014, she was awarded one of four inaugural Canopy Awards by Casey Trees, for her efforts to educate people about the trees of Washington, DC.
