Michael Koryta

Michael Koryta (pronounced Ko-ree-ta) is an author of contemporary crime and supernatural fiction whose work has been translated into more than twenty languages. His novels have appeared on The New York Times bestseller list, and have won, or been nominated for, prestigious prizes and awards such as the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the Shamus Award, the Barry Award, the Quill Award, and the International Thriller Writers Awards. "An Honest Man," his 2023 release, was an Edgar Award-nominee for Best Novel.

Before turning to writing full-time, Koryta worked as a private investigator, a newspaper reporter, and taught at the Indiana University School of Journalism. He decided at an early age that he wanted to become a crime novelist and when he was 20, "Tonight I Said Goodbye" was accepted for publication. It won the St. Martin's Press/Private Eye Writers of America Best First Novel prize.

Many of Koryta's novels have been optioned for film and television production. First among them: "Those Who Wish Me Dead," which was released as a major motion picture in 2020 starring Angelina Jolie, Nicholas Hoult, Tyler Perry, Jon Bernthal and Aidan Gillen. The film version of "So Cold the River" was released in 2022, and starred Bethany Joy Lenz, Alysia Reiner, and Andrew J. West.

Koryta graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In 2008, Koryta was honored with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award by his alma mater.
