Michael Nutter

Michael Nutter is an African-American politician who has served in various roles, indicating a deep understanding of public and urban affairs. He held the position as the 98th Mayor of Philadelphia from 2008 to 2016 and was a former member of the Philadelphia City Council from the 4th district. In addition to his political roles, Nutter was the President of the United States Conference of Mayors from 2012 to 2013, adding a national perspective to his local experience. Furthermore, he served as a Columbia School of International and Public Affairs faculty member. He is currently the David N. Dinkins Professor of Professional Practice in Urban and Public Affairs at Columbia University.

Throughout his tenure, Nutter introduced and implemented various measures that showed his commitment to public service and urban development. He introduced legislation creating an independent Ethics Board, implemented a local bidder preference program for Philadelphia businesses, and created the Mayor's Office of Reintegration Services for Ex-offenders (RISE). He established the Mayor's Office of Education and announced the Greenworks plan to make Philadelphia the greenest city in America by 2015. Showing his commitment to transparency and public service, Nutter launched Philly311, the city's first 311 service, to provide access to city services and information.

Nutter's career also extends to involvement in various boards and councils. He has served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority and has been a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, the Board of Ethics for the City of Philadelphia, and the Board of Directors for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia - Office of Catholic Education. His memberships on these boards demonstrate his comprehensive experience in various fields and his dedication to public service. Notably, Nutter was elected as a United States presidential elector in 2008 and 2012, which is a testament to his national recognition and respect within his party.
