Michael R. Jackson

Michael R. Jackson holds a BFA and MFA in playwriting and musical theatre writing from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. As a playwright, composer, and lyricist, he has seen his work performed in various prestigious venues including Joe’s Pub and NAMT. He co-wrote the musical adaptation of the 2007 horror film "Teeth" with composer and co-bookwriter Anna K. Jacobs. He wrote the book, music, and lyrics for the musicals "White Girl in Danger" and "A Strange Loop", the latter having its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons in co-production with Page 73 Productions in 2019.

Jackson's "A Strange Loop" has not only won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2020 but also received significant acclaim on Broadway. The musical garnered eleven Tony Award nominations, winning two: Best New Musical and Best Book. His innovative approach to theatre has earned him recognition as one of TIME's "100 Most Influential People" in 2022. Additionally, his next project "White Girl in Danger" is set to premiere in New York City in 2023.

Awards and recognitions include a New Professional Theatre Festival Award, a Jonathan Larson Grant, a Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, an ASCAP Foundation Harold Adamson Award, a Whiting Award, the Helen Merrill Award for Playwriting, a Dramatist Guild Fellowship, and the prestigious Windham-Campbell Prize. His contributions to theatre and discussions on his work have led to appearances on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah", "CBS Sunday Morning", and "Late Night with Seth Meyers". Jackson also holds commissions from Grove Entertainment & Barbara Whitman Productions and LCT3.
