Michele Alliot-Marie

Michèle Alliot-Marie, a prominent figure in French politics, has held multiple ministerial roles, such as the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs from November 2010 to February 2011, Minister of Justice from June 2009 to November 2010, Minister of the Interior from May 2007 to June 2009, and Minister of Defence from May 2002 to May 2007. Notably, she was the first woman in France to hold the Defense, Interior, and Foreign Affairs portfolios. She has also served as Minister of various other French departments including Secretary of State for Education, Minister of Youth and Sports, Minister of Overseas Territories and Territorial Communities, and Minister of State. Alliot-Marie is currently a member of the European Parliament, a position she resumed in 2019.

Alliot-Marie's leadership extends beyond her ministerial roles. She served as the President of the Rally for the Republic (RPR) from 1999 to 2002, being the first woman to lead a major French political party. Her influence in the political arena was recognized by Forbes magazine, ranking her as the 57th most powerful woman in the world in 2006 and elevating her to the 11th spot in 2007. Currently, she is the Deputy Mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Vice President of the National Council of The Republicans.

Beyond politics, Alliot-Marie is a recognized scholar in law and political science. Before her political career, she was an associate professor of public law at University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1984. Her academic background, coupled with her vast experience in government, including overseeing one of Europe's largest defense budgets and managing diplomatic engagements with foreign counterparts like U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, complements her ability to speak on a diverse range of topics.
