Her parents are Carmen Milady Pared Espinal, from the Dominican Republic, and Rafael Rodríguez Santiago, a U.S. Army veteran originally from Puerto Rico. Rodriguez's journey to stardom began in her youth; she moved from Texas to the Dominican Republic at age eight and lived there for two years before relocating to Puerto Rico. By the age of 11, her family had settled in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her career in front of the camera started with minor roles in "Summer of Sam" (1999) and "Cradle Will Rock" (1999).
