Mike Budenholzer

Mike Budenholzer is the Head Coach of the Phoenix Suns. On May 11, 2024, Budenholzer became the 22nd Head Coach* in Suns history.

Prior to his tenure with the Suns, Coach Budenholzer was the Head Coach for the Milwaukee Bucks. In the 2020-2021 NBA Season, Coach led the Bucks organization to its first NBA Championship since 1971. In his first three seasons as the Bucks Head Coach, Budenholzer won the NBA Coach of the Year Award (2019) and the Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year Award twice (2019 & 2020). Before his time in Milwaukee, Coach Budenholzer was the Head Coach for the Atlanta Hawks (2013-2018) and an Assistant for the San Antonio Spurs (1996-2013). In the five seasons as the Hawks Head Coach, Coach Budenholzer compiled a 213-197 record and earned the 2015 NBA Coach of the Year Award. With the Spurs, Budenholzer helped the organization reach sixteen consecutive NBA Playoffs appearances, and win four NBA Championships (1999, 2003, 2005, & 2007).

Budenholzer was born on August 6, 1969, in Holbrook, Arizona and went to Holbrook High School. Budenholzer later attended Pomona College, where he was a four-year letterman in basketball and golf. After graduating in 1993, Budenholzer went to Denmark to play basketball for the Vejle Basketball Klub. In his rookie year, Budenholzer averaged 27.5 points per game (1993-1994). Coach Budenholzer is the youngest of seven children and he and his wife have four children (William Vincent, Savoia Elizabeth, Hanna Louise, and John Brent).
