Mike Singletary

Mike Singletary is perhaps most recognized as one of the Chicago Bears’ toughest middle linebackers, with his intense gaze fixed across the line at the opposing quarterback. He was a vital member of the celebrated ‘85 Super Bowl team and was selected to play in 10 consecutive Pro Bowls during his 12-year career. He also led the NFL as Defensive Player of the Year three times and served as the Bears’ team captain for ten years.

Since retiring from football in 1993, he spent ten years as a motivational speaker and corporate consultant, helping companies enhance their strategies for teamwork and overall success. In 2003, he transitioned into coaching, starting as the Linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens. His coaching career progressed with roles including the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers for two years, followed by a stint with the Minnesota Vikings, and a season with the Los Angeles Rams in 2016.

Singletary was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998 after a distinguished playing career with the Chicago Bears from 1981-92. Throughout his career, he accumulated 1,488 tackles (885 solo), consistently leading as one of the top tacklers for the Bears in his last 11 seasons. Besides his on-field achievements, he was named to the NFL Team of the ‘80s and received All-Pro honors ten times (1983-1992). Singletary also holds the record for starting 172 defensive team games for the Bears, second only to running back Walter Payton’s 184 career starts.

In 2001, Singletary earned the NFL’s “Man of the Year Award” for his integrity and leadership both on and off the field, as well as his contributions to his community and society at large. He co-founded Leadership Zone, a company that provides leadership training programs.

A Baylor University alum, drafted in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft, Singletary has authored three books: "Singletary One on One", "Calling the Shots", and "Daddy’s Home at Last". Alongside his wife, Kim, they have raised seven children and now enjoy time with their eleven grandchildren.

Since ending his active coaching career, Singletary has engaged with National Child ID, an organization dedicated to providing parents with essential identifying information for their school-age children. Additionally, he continues to be active on the speaker circuit, sharing strategies for leadership and organizational success. Currently, he is devoted to enhancing the quality of life in underserved communities through his non-profit organization, Changing Our Perspective, with a focus on improving education, healthcare, and addressing food insecurities.
