Moon Ribas

Moon Ribas is a Catalan contemporary choreographer and the co-founder of the Cyborg Foundation, an organization that promotes cyborgism as both an artistic and social movement. The foundation's mission is to assist individuals in becoming cyborgs, defend cyborg rights, and encourage the integration of technology with human senses.

Moon completed her Choreography studies at Dartington College of Arts in England and pursued further education at Theatreschool of Amsterdam SNDO (School for New Dance Development). Since 2007, she has been pioneering the use of cybernetic devices to develop a seismic sense, allowing her to feel earthquakes worldwide in real-time, even those as small as 1 on the Richter scale.

Her artistic endeavors focus on extending human senses through cybernetics. Ribas uses the internet as a sensory extension and explores cyborg art, transforming her unique capabilities into performance art. Her main performance piece, "Waiting for Earthquakes," involves her responding to live earthquake stimuli with dance, illustrating the connection between her movements and the earth's seismic activity. Another notable performance, "Seismic Percussion," features a drum solo influenced by real-time tectonic movements or pre-recorded seismic data, converting earthquakes into rhythmic musical compositions.

Ribas has shared her innovative work and spoken at various venues and festivals, including TedxMunich in Germany, TedxMuscat in Oman, Campus Party London in the UK, Fierce Fest in the UK, and TNT (Festival of New Trends) in Spain. Her work aims to deepen the relationship between humans, animals, nature, and space through the application of cyborg technology, pushing the boundaries of how we experience and interact with our environment.
