Nick Bilton is a Los Angeles-based author, journalist, and filmmaker known for probing the most talked about issues of our time, Bilton specializes in creating thought-provoking and wildly entertaining content across a multitude of mediums. He has produced Emmy-award winning documentaries, scripted television shows, feature films and narrative NYT-Bestselling nonfiction books.
His journalism has included stories on cryptocurrency crimes, the impact of social media on society, and the evolving landscape of technology on media, culture and politics. Bilton's work for Vanity Fair and The New York Times has covered high-profile topics such the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes, profiles on the leaders of the companies that built the most dangerous social media companies in the world, the backstabbing and infighting that led to Twitter, the story of Bitcoin heist by Heather "Razzlekhan" Morgan and Ilya "Dutch" Lichtenstein, and countless profiles on Steve Jobs and Tim Cook and Apple, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and many more. A series of stories he wrote for The New York Times led to the FAA allowing people to use iPhones and Kindles during takeoff and landing. His books, Hatching Twitter and American Kingpin were New York Times bestsellers, the latter of which told the story of the hunt to find the man behind the creation of the Silk Road drug website.
His previous television and film productions have included HBO's The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, HBO's Fake Famous, which Bilton directed, and a forthcoming three-part doc series based on his Vanity Fair story “Bitcoin Bonnie and Clyde", in partnership with Netflix and director Chris Smith. He has written on TV shows, including The Idol and Hatching Twitter.
Additionally, Bilton is currently in production on a doc series based on the founding of Twitter, in partnership with Netflix, and in pre-production on a limited series drama with Netflix and UCP, with Bilton serving as showrunner and executive producer.
