It was founded in August 2007 by Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru, and Jonathan Neman, three months after they graduated from Georgetown University's undergraduate business school. As of February 2016, it had expanded to 40 stores across several major U.S. cities including Baltimore, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., with further expansion plans for Chicago and Northern California within the same year. The company employs over 1,700 people.
