Niklas Modig

Niklas Modig is a researcher at the Center for Innovation and Operations Management at Stockholm School of Economics and is recognized as one of the leading authorities within lean and operational excellence. He has conducted an in-depth study of Toyota Motor Corporation’s high-performing service systems as the first and only foreign researcher granted such extensive access. From 2006 to 2008, Modig was a visiting researcher at the "Center of Excellence – Manufacturing Management Research Center" at the University of Tokyo, where he worked alongside professor Takahiro Fujimoto, the leading Toyota researcher. During this time, he immersed himself in understanding Toyota's philosophy and operations, spending thousands of hours onsite.

Modig supervises and facilitates strategy for multinational companies and organizations across various industries, leveraging his profound knowledge and experience to improve their operational efficiencies. His book, "This Is Lean – Resolving the Efficiency Paradox," has sold over 200,000 copies, been translated into 14 languages, and was ranked the number one best-selling management book in Sweden in 2012. He is also recognized for his expertise on numerous topics including "Big Data," "Business," "Change," among others.

His pedagogical skills and ability to inspire have earned him multiple awards for teaching and speaking. Modig is frequently acknowledged as one of the most inspirational speakers in the field of operational excellence. His international reach is extensive, having worked with organizations in over 40 countries. In 2012, he was selected as one of 101 Super-talents in Sweden by the weekly business publication Veckans Affärer.
