Norm has co-authored several influential books including "Real-Time Strategy," "Results-Based Leadership," "How Leaders Build Value," "Change Champions Field Guide," "Leadership Brand," "Leadership Code," "What is Leadership?" and "Leadership Sustainability." His first book, "Real-Time Strategy: Improvising Team-Based Planning for a Fast Changing World," was part of the portable MBA series published by Wiley & Sons in 1993. His second book, "Results-Based Leadership: How Leaders Build the Business and Improve the Bottom Line," published by Harvard Business School Press in 1999, was named book of the year by SHRM. Other notable publications include "Why The Bottom Line Isn’t!: How to Build Value through People and Organizations," Wiley 2003, and "The Change Champion's Field Guide: Strategies and Tools for Leading Change in your Organization," Best Practice Publications, 2003.
He has published hundreds of articles in leading journals and newspapers, including the Washington Post, Forbes, and Financial Times. Furthermore, Norm has been recognized as one of the “Top 100 Voices in Leadership” by Executive Excellence magazine in February 2005, 2006, and 2007, and the Harvard Business Review recognized him in 2010 for doing “innovative and ground-breaking work on effective leadership.”
Norm is on the faculty at the Executive Education Center at the University of Michigan Business School, an affiliate of Duke Corporate Education, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Human Resource Management. He is also a board member of HELP International and an Honorary Colonel for the West Valley City Police Department.
