Pam Grier

Pam Grier first gained prominence in the 1970s with her performances in blaxploitation films. Her seminal works include "Coffy," "Foxy Brown," and "Friday Foster," in which she broke barriers as the first African-American woman to headline an action film. Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1949, Grier's career has spanned both 20th-century and 21st-century films and TV shows, showcasing her enduring appeal and talent.

In addition to her film work, Grier has made notable television appearances, including recurring roles in "Miami Vice" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," as well as "The L Word" and "Smallville." Her voice acting skills have been utilized in various projects, including the animated series "Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child." Beyond acting, Grier has a background in stage performances, having appeared in production as early as 1985, and her academic achievements include an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2011.

Adding to her repertoire, Grier penned her memoir, "Foxy: My Life in Three Acts" in 2010, further establishing herself as an author. In 2024, Grier announced that her memoir is set to be adapted into a seven-part limited series and that "Foxy Brown" is receiving a stage musical adaptation. She has been recognized for her contributions to the film industry, receiving a career tribute at the Toronto Black Film Festival and a lifetime achievement award in 2024. Complementing her career in film and television, Grier is also actively involved in activism and education, promoting diversity in the film industry.
