Pascal Lamy

Pascal Lamy served as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization from 2005 to 2013. Before this role, he was the European Commissioner for Trade from 1999 to 2004.

From 1994 to 1999, Lamy was the CEO of Crédit Lyonnais, overseeing significant restructuring efforts. His early career was spent in various governmental roles in France, including at the French Finance Ministry, the Inspection Générale des Finances, and the Treasury Department. He served as deputy chief of staff to the French Prime Minister from 1983 to 1985 and to the French Minister for Economy and Finance from 1981 to 1983. He also was the Chief of Staff to the President of the European Commission Jacques Delors and his G7 sherpa from 1985 to 1994.

Currently, Lamy is the President of the Paris Peace Forum and serves as the Brunswick Europe Chair. He actively contributes to various think tanks including the Jacques Delors Institutes in Paris, Berlin, and Brussels. He is also the president of the UNWTO ethics of tourism committee and the French Committee of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PEEC). Additionally, Lamy holds positions on numerous boards and advisory committees globally, such as the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, IFPRI, CERRE, and Transparency International. He is an affiliate Professor at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Shanghai, and at HEC Paris.

Lamy's academic background includes degrees from the École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC), the Paris Institute of Political Studies, and the École Nationale d'Administration (ENA). He presents in both English and French, reflecting his extensive international experience and engagement.
