Pat Kiernan

In a city known for its brash attitude, a polite Canadian seems an unlikely choice as the face of local morning television in New York. Yet, Pat Kiernan has been part of the daily routine of New Yorkers since 1997, when he became the morning anchor for NY1 News. He’s best known for his daily "In the Papers" feature, where he summarizes the colorful content of New York City's local papers with a combination of insight, analysis and deadpan humor.

Pat began his journalism career in 1988 at while attending the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He later made a transition from radio to television at Edmonton's CTV and Global affiliate stations. He moved to New York and joined Time Warner in 1996, as part of the team that delivered content for the company’s first interactive television trial.

With his NY1 routine a constant for the past 19 years, Pat enjoys taking on a wide range of other broadcasting assignments. He’s the host of a weekly business news show on Bloomberg TV Canada. He’s been the host of several national game shows, including VH1’s World Series of Pop Culture. Pat is often asked to appear “as himself” in movies and TV programs. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Billions and Money Monster and Ghostbusters are among his most recent appearances. In 2012, Pat was among Kelly Ripa’s co-hosts on Live! with Kelly.

Pat is the founder and editor of PatsPapers.com, where he posts his favorite news stories each morning. He lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with his wife, Dawn and daughters Lucy and Maeve.
