Pedro Jaime MartÃnez is a retired Dominican professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1992 to 2009 for five teams, most notably for the Boston Red Sox from 1998 to 2004. Born and raised in poverty in the Dominican Republic, Martinez overcame significant obstacles to achieve success in professional baseball. His resilience, humility, hard work, passion, responsibility, and determination are widely acknowledged.
He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015 in his first year of eligibility, joining Juan Marichal as the second Dominican player to be enshrined. In recognition of his significant contributions to baseball, his number was retired by the Boston Red Sox in a ceremony held two days after his Hall of Fame induction.
Transitioning from his illustrious playing career, Martinez is now known as a motivational and keynote speaker, focusing on themes such as "Celebrity," "Overcoming Adversity," "Peak Performance," and "Sports." He brings his personal experiences of leadership and persistence to various speaking engagements. Additionally, Martinez also serves as an MLB on TBS studio analyst for postseason coverage alongside Gary Sheffield, Jimmy Rollins, and Casey Stern.
