Peter Scott, a globally recognized leader in the clean cookstove industry, is the CEO and founder of BURN Manufacturing Co. and the founder of BURN Design Lab. Scott founded BURN in 2011 in order to save lives and forests in the developing world through the design and manufacture of clean-burning cookstoves. He is considered one of the world’s leading experts in the design and dissemination of biomass conserving technologies in the developing world.
BURN is the only vertically integrated modern cookstove company in sub-Saharan Africa. The facility has a capacity of 45,000 stoves per month and employs over 400 people, sixty percent of whom are women.
In 2006, Scott received an Ashden Award for supporting local producers in Southern Africa in creating highly profitable institutional stove businesses. He has been chosen as one of the Top100 Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy Magazine and in 2024, the company was included in TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential Companies.
