Phil McKinney

Phil McKinney retired in 2011 as the CTO for Hewlett-Packard's (HP) Personal Systems Group where he was responsible for long-range strategic planning and research and development (R&D) for all of the company's PC product lines, including displays, mobile devices, notebooks, desktops, and workstations. In addition, he led the Innovation Program Office, which was chartered to identify, incubate, and launch new businesses for HP. After leaving HP, he took over as CEO of CableLabs, the global R&D and innovation lab of the cable industry funded by more than 60 leading cable operators from 35 countries. McKinney is an award-winning innovator of technologies and products used by hundreds of millions of consumers and businesses worldwide.

McKinney is also the author of "Beyond The Obvious" – a book that shares how he used innovation and creativity to achieve personal and professional success. The book has won multiple awards and recognitions and has been translated into Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, and Russian. He also hosts the award-winning nationally syndicated radio show and podcast, "Killer Innovations," which has been named one of the "Top 10 Business Podcasts" for three years.

McKinney serves on the Board of Directors for The Computer History Museum and The Tech Museum, as well as on the Innovation Board for Roche Diagnostics. He is an Eagle Scout and serves on the Executive Board of the Santa Clara County Council for the Boy Scouts of America. His recognition includes Vanity Fair naming him "The Innovation Guru," MSNBC and Fox Business calling him "The Gadget Guy," and the San Jose Mercury News dubbing him the "chief seer." He has been credited with forming and leading multiple teams that FastCompany and BusinessWeek have listed multiple times on their annual list of the “50 Most Innovative”. His work has also been extensively covered by notable publications and broadcast organizations.
