Phoebe Bridgers is an indie-rock singer-songwriter who has received four Grammy Awards from eleven nominations. She released her debut album, "Stranger in the Alps," in September 2017 and followed it with her sophomore studio album, "Punisher," in 2020, both of which received critical acclaim.
Along with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, Bridgers formed the indie-rock supergroup boygenius in 2018. The group released its eponymous EP in October 2018 to widespread acclaim. Bridgers is also in the band Better Oblivion Community Center with Conor Oberst. Their eponymous debut album together was released in January 2019.
Continuing her collaborative endeavors, Bridgers has worked with various artists such as Taylor Swift, the 1975's Matty Healy, Muna, SZA, Kid Cudi, and the National. In 2023, boygenius reunited and released their debut album, "The Record." Bridgers also featured on tracks from the album "First Two Pages of Frankenstein" by the National, released in April of that year. Her collaborations extend into film as well, as she starred in the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel Conversations with Friends and the A24 horror film I Saw the TV Glow.
Her work extends to philanthropy as well, with Bridgers opening and performing with Taylor Swift in May 2023 in New Jersey and releasing the single "Waiting Room" later that month, with all proceeds donated to Music Will. Despite her numerous collaborations, Bridgers has also found time to release solo work, including an EP of four reworked tracks from "Punisher," entitled "Copycat Killer," in November 2020.
In 2019, Bridgers, along with several other women, accused fellow musician Ryan Adams of sexual misconduct in a The New York Times report. Her song "Motion Sickness" is about Adams. Bridgers' music often centers on acoustic guitar and explores themes such as death, trauma, therapy, depression, and strained relationships, which is reflective of her personal experiences and struggles with depression and anxiety. She openly identifies as bisexual.
At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, Bridgers was the most awarded person, winning three for her work with Boygenius and one for her collaboration with SZA. With her musical style primarily described as indie rock, indie folk, emo-folk, and indie pop, Bridgers has positioned herself as a prominent figure in indie music.
