After a one-year post-doctoral stint at Lomonosov University in Moscow, Prof. Brandstetter joined BASF's Plastics Laboratory in 1975. He became assistant to the board member responsible for research in 1984, head of the engineering plastics research department in 1985, head of the Styrene Copolymers business unit in 1993, and head of the Ultra-plastics business unit in 1999, before assuming his current role in 2000. He was appointed an honorary professor at Tübingen University in 1995.
